Putting page breaks in paragraphs

Here's my problem:

I'm coding a dynamic report and need to make sure it's printer friendly. I have the content coming in from a database. All content is different sizes in length and number of paragraphs.

I'm trying to figure out the BEST way to output this content so that it properly spaces out between pages and adds my headers to the top of each page.

We use San-serif font which makes it more difficult than just using strlen()

I've started testing out a few theories but am wondering if anyone has some suggestions because I'm sure this has been thought through before.

I'd appreciate some words of advice. Thanx!

you might consider creating a dynamic pdf. look into pdflib or fpdf.

I've done pdf - and like it a lot - but my client wants html because most of his clients are computer illiterate (some even run Win95 with Netscape2).

Is there anyway in php to measure the pixel width of a string?

Not sure, i can see a number of posible problems with that.

one off the top of my head is that end users can overwrite the webpages fonts sizes and settings. This was done, i believe, for those who have problems seeing smaller fonts.

The information for that it stored client side and php is a server side script so i don't think so.
