PHP/.htaccess: Automatic Redirection help

Is there a way to automatically redirect this (as an example):

http://domain.com/index.php?x=SOMETHING

to

http://SOMETHING.domain.com

using PHP or .htaccess without manually creating each subdomain?

if you want to have access to any subdomain with out manually creating the zones, you will need to enable dns wildcards. this will require root privelages. once wildcards are enabled you can setup a default pointer for all subdomains and use php to determine what subdomain the person is on, and you can also use php, or htaccess if you really want, to redirect from index.php?x=something to something.domain.com
