need some help coding new to php

Ok moving from C " that should tell you how old I am " hehehe
into the world of php / html/forms.

Now heres what I have working and then the next step is where
I need the help

1. I make a sql call to my database and bring back the information
   into a select call with the database information being my opions.

so my database is vendors and all the information is coming back just fine into my select call.

Now heres the rub once the information is back and I click on one
of the vendors I would like to populate this into a input call to be handed off to another section.

I'm sure that once this is explained it's going to be real simple but for some reason it's just not getting into this OLD brain.
