(Reorder) records in result page.

hi,

question about (Reorder) records in end-user result page.
I have MySQl table like this:
Cat_order | Catgeory |

and I made query by PHP and I get this result in this Order:

Cat_order | Category |Reorder|

1 | Cars | V
2 | Computers | V ^

3 | Scanners | ^

then I want to change this order (sort),
I want Cars to be in the bottom and Scanners on the top.

How can I Move any record up and the other down by clicking on the suitable Arrow shape.

u can make it by making your query like this
mysql_query(" select all from yourtable order by Cat_order Desc");

Would it be possible to list Computers and then Cars and Scanners? If so, could anyone tell me how?

Here's how you do it:
SELECT *
FROM mytable
ORDER BY
CASE Category
WHEN 'Scanners' THEN 1
WHEN 'Computers' THEN 2
ELSE 3
END

I'll only explain this if you first read the MySQL documentation of CASE and ORDER BY

That is one thing I wish I had learned a LONG time ago. Works like a charm and much faster than the alternatives I was using!

The simpler answer its to add a static sort_order column where you set the sort order for all columns. CASE sorting is handy for an ad hoc report, however.
