Display a blank Form to ADD a record?

Might be going about this entirely wrong but here's where I'm at:

I have a page that has an ADD and UPDATE record link. Click on UPDATE and it will pass a parameter to the UPDATE page and display information about that record to be updated.

If you click ADD, I want the form to be blank to add a whole new record.

Where I'm getting stuck at is that I can not get the page to display a blank form since the datasource is dependant on the parameter coming over from the other page. The whole page is blank.

My question is...do I need two seperate pages, one for adds and one for updates or can I use a single page for both features?

I'd pass a parameter via GET: file.php?s=add

This will set $GET['s'], and we can check its value:

if ($_GET['s'] == 'add') {
  // this is the ADD section
}
elseif ($_GET['s'] == 'update') {
  // this is the UPDATE section
}
else {
  // something else or not set
}

Yepper...that's how I was doing it. Just needed to figure out how to get a blank form to display since the data elements of the form where getting their information from the datasource.

Since the variable being passed was not a valid data stream in the table, nothing would display. I have put in some work around code and it's working fine now.
