cron job to read and save a file

never used cron jobs, and tried reading up on it but i couldnt find what i was lookin for.

i have a dynamic image that shows webpage stats for my site, but some of the forums i go to doesnt allow dynamic images.

is it possible to use a cron job to read my dynamic image, save it to a temp folder, say, every 3 minutes, and it will overwrite the existing saved image?

if thats not possible, how else can i do that?

you can use a cron job to run a script every 3 minutes. basically you will just need to write a php script to generate the image and save it to file. then the cron for it is this:

/3 * php -f /full/path/to/script.php

like how would i generate it and save it?

how is the image being generated now?

its using gd to create the gif. you can view the sig by going to the php file, but im using htaccess to view it as a jpg.

any ideas? i want to use cron (if possible) to read the jpg image and save that image to my server so i can access it as a regular image

the script could be as simple as this:

good thing i had a backup cause i overwrote the wrong file the first time lol
