Input Statement with Redirect

I know this is easier than I am making it out to be but after 5hrs of trying I'm not getting anywhere. Very simple....

I have a textbox (txtbx1) and a submit button. The user supplies some info into the text box and clicks the button.

I then want to take the input and compare to what is in the database. If a match....go here.....If no match....go there. I'm not looking to pass any variables on to the next page. Just a simple redirect.

example. User puts in "dog" clicks submit.

.... php code to connect to db, form my query, compare to field
.... if true then redirect to dog.php

for what ever reason, I can not get this down and I know the answer is right in front of my face.

Can someone assist? Please let me know if you need more info.

make it a little easier....

after clicking the button, it would display certain information on the same page. (i.e. a floating box). that would be even better.

so if value is dog, then display layer#1, cat would display layer#2.

might be getting ahead of myself here.

is this doable?
