How to read from a file on hard drive

I am having some troubles... PLEASE HELP :o

I am trying to read from a file on my hard drive. It is a Mac, and I can't geting the program to locate the file. The hard drive on this computer is called PM G3 so do I need to just start with that and continue with the path to the file. should I use PM G3:Users😃esktop:....... or PM G3/Users😃es........ ?????

i'm sure you'll need the full path, now if apples have folders, open one and browse to the location of the file you wanna open and whatever is in the address bar (if you have one) then that is most likely the location you should use in PHP, so copy it, paste it into your fopen or file function, add the file's name and watch it burn...now start again.
