I am having problems doing a chdir with a valid ftp resource identifier to a directory that has a space character in it, such as "abc def/"
I have tried urlencoding it to "abc%20def/" to no avail. Any ideas?
What do you mean by valid ftp resource identifier?

Mayhap try escaping it
"directory\ name\ with\ spaces"
as one would at the command line? I don't recall what the ftp protocol specs say on that precise point.
