Sorting arrays?

Can anyone help me out, I'm currently populating an array with the names of images contained within a directory on my servers hard disk.

From here I then loop through the array and output the names to display the images.

One thing I have noticed is that the images are not displayed in the order I would like them displayed and wondered how I could go about sorting the array.

At the moment I have six images: furious5_main.gif, furious5_1.gif, furious5_2.gif, furious5_3.gif, furious5_4.gif, furious5_5.gif - and I would like to display them in this order.

Does anyone have an suggestions as to how I could sort the array?

how exactly is that order you specify "sorted"? you want to list the "letter" indexes before the "number"? if so and you know that your files will always follow that naming convention then you could do:

$files = array(
'furious5_1.gif',
'furious5_2.gif',
'furious5_3.gif',
'furious5_4.gif',
'furious5_5.gif',
'furious5_main.gif'
);

foreach ($files as $key => $value)
{
	$explode = explode('_', $value);
	if (is_numeric($explode[1]{0})) {$numbers[$key] = $value;}
	else {$letters[$key] = $value;}	
}

$array = $letters + $numbers;
print_r($files);

Yes I want to sort letters before numbers, I'll have a play around with that and see how I get on.
