Using PHP offline

Can you use PHP offline, that is, can you use a php driven database on the hard disk and on a CD-ROM database. ?

Go to http://php.net and download and install it. You may also want Apache and MySQL. They can be downloaded from thier homesites as well.

I figured that one can use PHP on a offline computer. But can one distrubute PHP based database on a CDROM without the need of installing anything on the reciever (third party) end.

For example, will an ordinary maching, having no server installed be able to use all (basic) functions of a PHP search/sort driven database.?

Secondly, can this be done with relative ease or does it require expert level programming?

Not really, you could use C instead... PHP pages needs to be compiled every time... not 100% sure.. I wish there is some compiler for PHP, like C++. Anyways there are some good alternatives to this.
