SQL error reporting

Hi I am having some problem with a SQL statement and was wondering if their is some code that you add that will return SQL errors. The code I have at the moment return the screen however does not insert into the database. And it would be useful if I could find out why.

$insert = "INSERT INTO members (first_name, surname, date_of_birth, address, address2, area,

[cahva]

Just add:

echo mysql_error();

..after you mysql_query. It tells if theres something wrong..
