archive webpage to mysql using php

looking for a method to archive a specific webpage, the problem is how to search for images on a page and write them to seperate files in a directory or better yet mysql. i'd like to do this with php if possible. the pages would then be archived, so after the live page is dumped i will still have an archived copy with text and images, etc. i suspect to show the archived page i will have to rewrite it with local iamges now on my hard drive.

Just out of curiosity, why dump the page to begin with? Just create a table where you store the page names, and call them back up using an ID key unique to each page (set in the table).

I mean, you are basically wanting to recreate the pages anyhow, so why dump them? I think the overhead you save in the table would more than compensate for the 2-4k sizes of each page you would be storing...

Maybe I am missing something here, not sure... 😉

when i say 'dumped' the pages i'm looking to capture will be deleted, so i need to capture not only their text content but also thier images. my developer has no problems with capturing the content, it is capturing the images and saviing them to a directory or mysql which we haven't figured out. keep in mind that once the file is archived, the page will have to be re written so the links for the images point locally to my hard drive and not to the the web site from which they came from.

Yeah, I got what you meant by "dumped". I assume then that you are not the one dumping them, and you don't control that... It sounds like you are trying to cache the pages ala Google. (albeit locally)

So having said that, you probably need to look in the PHP manual at the file() functions, along with some way of matching the <img src= portion of image tages to strip out the URLs of the files. (Probably something like preg_match() or something...

I personally am not sure of the best way to go about it, but hopefully something I have said here will help. Just start digging into the PHP manual, and you will find something. I am 99.99% sure what you are wanting to do can be done.
