Struggling with simple calculation!

I have the following [line 101] code :

$best_price = ($std_price * 1.2);

Which is supposed to take the Standard price and multiply it by 1.2 to give the best price for a particular product.

However, it gives the following error :

Fatal error: Unsupported operand types in c:\phpdev....\form_functions.php on line 101

What am I doing wrong!?!?

check earlier lines and see if you missed a semicolon somewhere.

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

I have checked back but can not find any missing semicolons.

At the end of a Db query I have the following: $best_price = $std_price; and when I echo the result to the page, the "correct" answer is displayed, which seems to indicate that all is working to that point.

However, what I need to do is add 20% to the $best_price.

When I do the following I get the error: $best_price = ($std_price * 1.2);

I get same error with or without brackets () and if I substitute * for + or -

Running out of hair!

Can you quote the preceding section and the line in question directly?

I tend to see it drawmack's way ... something before the line must be wrong ....

Try using one of the following

$best_price=bcmul($std_price,1.2,2); //2 is scale here

$best_price=gmp_mul($std_price,1.2);

Hi Everyone.

After a good nights sleep and a lot of coffee this morning i realised that i had been trying to multiply an array!

$best_price = $std_price[price] * 1.2;

Seems to have solved the problem. [On reflection I probably didn't give enough info in my original post, just one more problem of being a newbie I suppose]!
