I had some people complaining that the home page of one of my sites is a really slow load. I didn't know what OS or browser they were using but I tried it on my sister's old funky Mac (MSIE) using cheap DSL, it took 45 seconds to load. and subsequent loads were no better. you'd think the Mac would cache it ! Other sites (including another one written by me with basically the same coding style and now hosted in Spain!!!) were kinda slow on her machine but no where near as slow as this one.
Anywhere else I've tested the page loads in 3-4 seconds and sometimes a lot better.
I've eliminated many of the usual culprits,
it's not server overload, it has just one graphic,
the only 3d party stuff is google ads and they are javascript so they happen after the page is rendered, the whole page is only about 50K, pings to that domain work just fine. The home page is pretty static. I put bench marks in at the beginning of the page generation and the end, and the gen time is usually between 0.01 and 0.3 seconds...
that might be server load...
but still if the server kicks out the page in 0.3 seconds max you know its not the bottleneck.
anyway if ya'all wanna try it

I've carved this page down to the absolute min afaik, so if ya'all have any ideas I'd love to know what's holding it up.
