Defining variables from uneditable info?

Please forgive me for being so blunt and "requestive" ...
It's been a while since I've done php (a long, long, loooong while).

Its like the answer is at the tip of my tongue, but I can't find it!

I have a text (.txt) file that has:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 69.134.87.26

in it... Only that. I need to grab the actual ip only (the '69.134.87.26' part).

I need to work on a code that will open up that text file, go through it, and grab the IP address only and attach it to the variable. How would I strip that from the text file and define it as, say, $newip ?

I'd really appreciate this. And if you are wondering, this is for a Windows-platform java web server for people with dynamic ip addresses. Im 95% done, as I just need this.

once you isolate that line w/ the ip you can use regular expressions.

preg_match("/(\d+\.\d+\.\d+\.\d+)/", $SEARCHTEXT, $matches);
$newip = $matches[1];

you can use the [man]file[/man] function to read each line of the file into an array element and apply that regular expression to get the ip if one is on the line.
