Getting PHP up and Running

Hi. It's quite a few years since I last used PHP and MySQL, and it worked fine then. But I cannot seem to get it running now. It's probably something really simple, but I'm stuck and I would be gratefull for any clues as to whats wrong. I'm developing a Web Site on my PC and want to include a PHP/MySQL Guestbook. My setup is as follows:

PHP Version: 4.3.7.7
PHP folder: c:\php
MySQL folder: c:\mysql
Operating System: XP Pro SP1a
Server: IIS (Instead of PWS)
localhost folder: c:\inetpub\wwwroot
A PHP script in this folder works OK.
Web Site folder: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\tullah\earlydays
Web Site Doc folder: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\tullah\earlydays\docs
The Web site here works OK and is mostly HTML with a bit of JavaScript.
PHP folder: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\tullah\earlydays\guestbook
A test PHP script in this folder doesn't work.

I hope this is enough info.

Perhaps you could explain in a bit more detail how the PHP scripts don't work. Are there any error messages? A blank screen? A server error page?

The script I'm using is just the Hello World variety. Except that I put two bits of text. One in HTML and one in PHP.
In wwwroot, I can see both text strings, but in ...\guestbook I can only see the HTML string.
I can also see all the PHP code as well.
Could it be anything to do with php.ini?

That sounds more like a server problem, but I've never used IIS so can't really say.

AppSrv 2.0 can easly install PHP and Apache along with myPhpAdmin.

look it up its free, makes installing PHP and server on new pc easly as 1 2 well you ge tthe point.

btw did you edit you PHP.ini file to be setup right? point to right Directiory in it?

He's using IIS not Apache.

I have actually edited the C:\windows\php.ini file, but I'm not sure exactly what I should put in where.
For example, in doc_root =c:\inetpub\wwwroot\tullah\earlytimes\guestbook\, but that didn't work.
I don't think it is IIS as the PHP script works wwwroot OK. But then again, going back to the old PWS days, that had to be setup correctly or it wouldn't work.
I'll keep scratching around and see who comes up with the answer first.

I think I might have acidentally found the solution.

In the Menu system that runs the whole site, because not even bog standard HTML files would work either, I had to replace all the forward slashes in paths to a back slash.

Because IIS is setup to use localhost, you apparently don't have to put the actual pathnames in because if you look in the IIS services, all the folders and files for my web site are shown to be directly under Default Web Site.

So, I guess it's no wonder nothing worked?
