script compatibility with PHP 4.1

Hi!

I am an admittedly inexperienced PHP coder, but I'd love to use the piece of code at:

http://www.phpbuilder.com/snippet/detail.php?type=snippet&id=580

It has a snippet ID of 828.

My server is using PHP 4.1, and I have set my permissions on the folder this is in to octal 777.

It is giving an 'Internal Server Error', and I am wondering if this code is up to date with PHP 4.1, and if not, is there an alternative I could use?

Is there a better Content Management System I could use to get the same or better results?

if you're getting an internal server error, your host is running PHP as a CGI. You may need to put:

#!/usr/bin/php
at the top of your scripts...

Hopefully this isn't the case, as there are ways to use PHP as a binary without that "shebang line"

OR, they may be running su_php, in which case you need to make sure all your scripts are owned by you.

extending on jim's post. if it is a phpsuexec issue, you cant have the folder permissions at 777. 755 should be sufficient or try 775 if 755 doesnt work. also make sure you have no misconfigured .htaccess files in that directory, or in the root of your home dir.

Great forum here (I'm new).

I didn't realize my server was running PHP as a CGI, so shebang fixed it. I'm moving to a new server soon, and it runs OS X server, which has PHP compiled into Apache and I'll be a happy coder then.
