checking who's browsing a page

If I had a member logging system, how would I be able to check which members are currently browsing which page?

Would I incorporate this into a database or would it be better to keep that info on a seperate php page. I think a database might be more organized but I would have to keep querying it everytime someone joins or leaves a page, that might be done faster if I store the info on a php page, I'm guessing.

If anyone has any ideas on how to implement this I'd be glad of the help.

Any coding help would also be appreciated since I haven't actually dug into it yet. 😃 Thanks

Is this "I" in the figurative/coding sense, e.g. "how can I create a script that says who's in which forum/page like here at PHPBuilder?", or "I" in the actual sense, like, "I want to view and meddle in all the activities of my puny little users, MUWAHAHAHAA..." ?? 😃

It probably doesn't matter, really. The DB is your best shot. Any kind of storage is going to the server filesystem anyway, so you might as well use the built in mechanisms as to spend time writing your own. Most SQL servers are built to handle a lot of transactions, so unless we're talking about a really high trafficked site, it's probably not going to affect things too much. <#include disclaimer.h>

I was going to do something like show who's browsing each page like how they do with the forums but it's going to be a community type of site, not an acutal message board but same idea.
