Quick array question...

Having to working with an array here, just trying to understand, ie.

Array (
[domain] => Array ( [0] => forwardwebenterprises.com [1] => level1 [2] => forward )
)

The array keys are beggining to make sense, but, what if I wanted to echo [domain] ?

whats that called?

'domain' in your example is called a key. To get the keys for an array you can use the array_keys function like this:

$myArray['domain'][0]='forwardwebenterprises.com';
$myArray['domain'][1]='level1';
$myArray['domain'][2]='forward';

print_r($myArray);

print_r( array_keys($myArray) );

array_keys actually returns an array of the keys so $keys=array_keys($myArray);
echo $keys[0];

Would print the first one.

You can also use foreach like

foreach($myArray as $key => $value)
{
    echo 'Key: '.$key.'<br>';
}

What if I didnt know what [domain] was going to be? (ive changed domain to user1 user2 user3 for example)

ie.

Array (
[user1] => Array ( [0] => forwardwebenterprises.com [1] => forward_Standard [2] => root )
[user2] => Array ( [0] => forwardwebenterprises2.com [1] => forward_Standard [2] => root )
[user3] => Array ( [0] => forwardwebenterprises.com3 [1] => forward_Standard [2] => root )
)

So, I dont know what user1 is going to be, could be anything & I dont know what forwardwebenterprises.com is going to be, could be somwhereelse.com or anotherplace.com such...

Im hoping to scan the list of user1, user2, user3, (whatever they may be) so I can examine what exists what does not exist (to prevent a duplicate name from being created)

Well you could use array_key_exists($keyToFind, $myArray) which would return true if the name was in there...

$newUser='user100';

if( array_key_exists($newUser, $myArray) )
{
   echo 'No - that name is USED';
}
