mySQL bin

Hello, using this tutorial to learn...

I have gotten to step 5 of lesson 1 on this page at the bottom...

to this step...

mysql -u root mydb < mydb.dump

I successfully created the mydb database and also created this mydb.dump file but I don't know where to put it. The instructions say "save it in mySQL's bin directory" but I don't know where that is located.

well... you know the directory called mysql, where you ran that command? You should have a directory below it called bin.

I have a "cgi-bin" and "scgi-bin" directory, these are in my "public_html" main "www" directory. However, I do not see a "mySQL" directory.

I have looked through every directory with FTP and can't find it. I know I have mySQL installed and working (my guestbook uses it).

I actually didn't run the command to create the mydb database, I have CPanel so I filled in the name and clicked create database.

PHP version 4.3.6
MySQL version 4.0.18-standard

Since you haven't specified, I am going to make an assumption -- you are using an ISP, aren't you? That lesson probably assumes you have PHP/MySQL installed on your own computer. If it was on YOUR OWN computer, you would have a directory called mysql (on a windows box it would be C:\mysql), and below that directory is "bin."

I'm not sure how to help you regarding using the ISP, unless there is a way to save that file to your user home directory. You might want to talk to your ISP.
