Hello all,

I am using this snippet:

move_uploaded_file($_FILES['image']['tmp_name'], "".$uploads."/".$_FILES['image']['name']) or die ("Couldn't upload file!");

How do I change the filename before it reaches the server's hard drive?

Two people might try to upload the same filename but different file.

If the user enters their name, how do I concatenate the name variable with the file's name.

I can't do $image = $image."".$name;
Because it doesn't use $image, it goes directly into FILES['image']['name']

I would apreciate any help

    '], $uploads."/".$_POST['username'].$FILES['image']['name']) or die ("Couldn't upload file!");

assuming your form has a field username for entering the user's name

if you have a database you also should consider inserting the data into the database and rename the file to the genereted primary key (auto_increment)

so you shouldn't get any duplicates

Hi,

I tried the code, looks fine, however when I tried it, it actually uploaded two files, one file which the user would upload and another non-existant file who's filename is the username variabe with no file extension.

So it did two uploads in one...

Any Idea

since i wrote move_uploaded_file only once you surely have some ind of loop around this?

No, no loop at all.
This is my code:

move_uploaded_file($FILES['image']['tmp_name'], $uploads."/".$POST['nickname'].$FILES['image']['name']) or die ("Couldn't upload file!");

There are no loops on this page, just if statements.
And the above code is only in if statement if($submit) as in the submit button.

Can I put a $variable instead of post?

I'm not sure why you're getting 2 files, but I did notice a few problems.

$imagesize = getimagesize($_FILES['image']['tmp_name']);
$imagewidth = $size[0];
$imageheight = $size[1];

$imagesize should probably be $size

$dir=tuie;

Should have quotes, but I'm not sure if you still use that var anyway.

For the move uploaded file function, I don't know what you mean by I should have quotes. Do u mean I didn't put the quotes in the same place?

The code that you put there is the same as mine.

Please let me know what you mean and where I should put quotes.

I would apreciate it.

Right now I get an error also, saying: Unable to create '/home/folder/public_html/folder/': Is a directory in .php file.

Why is it trying to create this folder? It already exists and it was working just a few days ago.

I have folder with chmod 777, yet it doesn't work.

Can anyone help me on this? Why won't it upload anymore?

Except for the last bit of code, I just copied what you wrote and said what was wrong.

For the quotes I meant like this:

$dir = "tuie";

And in the last line I quoted, you didn't have a "" in $FILES (the 2nd one on that line). It's probably why you're getting the "cannot create folder" error.
