Real-time map generation

Is there anyway to generate a real-time map with the address information the user types in using the service from Mapquest, Yahoo! Map or similar? I couln't find any API available.

Mapquest and the like all have APIs to get images of maps from their servers. But it costs a small fortune...

Only other solution is to write your own. Which is an immense amount of work.

I've had a quick look and haven't been able to find any free ones but to be honest I can't be bothered to search through a s**t load of UDDI Registry entries for something I'm not going to use. Sorry 🙁 Here's a link to the uddi.org find page from which you can go to a number of UDDI registries. There may be a free one there but judging by the number of results for this google search, I'd say it's unlikely.

Thanks for the reply. So I think the best thing to do is let the user upload the map on their own.

Yea, it would be possible to rip it from Yahoo but a. it's theft and that's not morally correct, b. it's theft and Yahoo won't like it and c. I doubt you'll like the feel of Yahoo's big fat * up your when they catch you :p

Nasty imagery, I know, but they're the kind of company to hit those they catch pretty hard as an example to others.

PS. Do let us know if you do ever come accross a free one. That would be an absolutely storming find 😃
