$_server['document_root']

My host is running PHP4.3.7 on Windoze 2003.

It appears that
$SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] (and $DOCUMENT_ROOT and $ENV['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] )
are not implemented.

Is this normal for Windows?

Is there a work round?

(PATH_TRANSLATED works but it goes right down to file level; I want it to stop at my root directory)

No, you should definately have $SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']. However, you won't have $DOCUMENT_ROOT, nor $ENV['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].
If you print_r($SERVER), is it available? Have you had any problems with other $SERVER variables?

Printed the list as you suggested. No, it's definitely not there.

Doesn't show up in phpinfo() either.

I've had no other problems with Server Variables but then I only needed PHP_SELF. That and many others appear in phpinfo.

Are you using IIS or Apache? I'm assuming IIS since it's Windows 2003... It may be IIS at fault, you may wish to try Apache instead.

It's IIS. I don't have rights to change to Apache as it is a shared server.

Thanks for clearing it up. I'll have to work round it by declaring a variable for document root at the start of the the script.

I took a look at one of my hosted sites on a W2003/php/IIS server, and didn't find DOCUMENT_ROOT

I have never run php on my own IIS, I don't know if there is some php setting that would affect this.
