[Resolved] Pregmatch problem

I am searching the html of a webpage and when i search for this
<span id="PRINCPL_BAL_AMT">$14,462.60</span>&nbsp;.
it returns, $14,462.60</span>&nbsp;

it continues going on even though it should be stopping after the <

preg_match('/<span id=\"PRINCPL_BAL_AMT\">(.*)</i', $data, $matches)

it will keep looking if more tags appear after the </span> tag. to prevent it, you can just do this:

preg_match('/<span id=\"PRINCPL_BAL_AMT\">(.*)<\/span>/i', $data, $matches);
