how to automatically back up tables?

I have php and mysql 5 on my WinXP. I want to make a routine that runs back up for all the tables in mysql. In what ways could I do this?

I know the trigger is added into mysql 5. What I know about using trigger is as some queue happens, it can execute some other queue accordingly. Can I do: as time now is 02:00, do some queue? If we could, what syntax would that be?

Use the scheduler feature of Windows?

I could use some language to write a small program that copies and moves the tables to some other place for back up, and then use Windows task scheduler to run it regularly. But I'm wondering if there is some syntax that could run it directly in mysql.

The MySQL manual should give you some insight into using mysqldump and mysqlhotcopy.

If you use mysqlhotcopy, it's faster, but is "generally" native to the O.S. you are running. If my knowledge serves me correctly, table types of MyISAM are portable to other O.S.-es, but you should check the manual to be sure.

Read up on them at the manual so you know the options to use with them. Afterwards, combine it with the sheduler service under Win32 and you should be set.
