Hi
I'm just starting to use PHP/MySQL again after a couple of years "holiday".
I am using Windows XP Pro, PHP 4.3.7, MySQL 4.1.2 and as the Server, IIS 5.1
I am building a site on my PC and I'm trying to get a Visitor Counter working. It is one of those "freebies" which reads a TXT file, updates it and re_saves it with a new number.
But I keep getting an error message, which goes something like this:-
fopen(filename.txt):failed to open stream😛ermission denied in phpfile at line x.
The instructions said that after creating this text file. it should be CHMODed to 777.
I expect I am missing something real simple, and I would be greatfull for a solution.

Terry, what is the syntax of your fopen function? Sometimes you need the "b" flag set for binary. See if this works for you:

$my_file = fopen("c:\\dir\\stuff.txt", "rb");
?>

Hmm.. doubtfully his text file is binary. Also, make sure you use \ or / instead of just a single \ inside double quotes, or PHP will try to escape the next character.

As for the problem, I would advise that you ditch IIS and get Apache. But that's just my (and most of the world's) opinion.

If you still want to use IIS, you just need to give the user permission to read and write to that folder.

it sounds like a permisions issue to me, make sure that your IWAM_USER has edit priveledges on the file you're trying to modify.
