OOP / XML Question

Now can some explain why PHP decides to upcast all the TplTagDefault to DOMElement objects, with the exception of the last element in the list for a given node ?

I'm beginning to think it's a PHP bug but I only want to report it if I am certain.

Thanks in advance for anyone who cracks this.
