What is the best way to remeber a user?

Ip (this has draw backs because shared connections have the same ip)

2.Cookies (this has draw backs because users can edit, delete, or tell their browser not to accept them)

3.Sessions (well they work out until the user closes the browser then everything is erased)

I am trying to make a recruitment page, similar to the ones at www.kingsofchaos.com and www.outwar.com where a user can only see it once, but I do not know how I can do it with out a drawback like the ones above. Also does anyone have any theries of how www.kingsofchaos.com and www.outwar.com make their pages "cheat proof" so you can't view the page more than once, or it will say "you have to wait Xhours and Xseconds"?

are you sure that these pages use a different mechnism?

i personally don't know one despite forcing the user to log in and storing the date and timeof the last login

i think you have to work with one (or a combination) of the two opportunities above (#1: ip is no opportunity)

what is the coding for getting an ip?

also I am not sure how www.kingsofchaos.com and www.outwar.com work because I set my browser not to set cookies, and with using aol, it changes your ip depending on your account setting (for example for a kids account setting the ip from my understanding is the same as others with similar settings (in the same area.), and the adult account setting is the same as others with the same settings (in the same area).

and for the part that mrhappiness said about having the users logg in, i really did not want to do this I just wanted so any joe can come to the page and click it only once.
