File encoding

I'm pulling data out of a mysql database, which I then provide for download in CSV or TXT format (with the option of zipping the file).

I'd like to add the ability for users to choose the encoding of the file they download as well. I believe that mysql queries return data in UTF-8. Are there PHP functions and/or libraries that will help me accomplish this?

I'm looking for UTF-8 / UTF-16 / ISO-8859-1

you'll most likely have to use the iconv functions to convert the data/file.

Iconv is a PHP extension so it has to be downloaded then PHP has to be build with --with-iconv[=dir]
