What Are You Working On?

Hey,

I'm quite interested in what everyone is working on (i'm just avoiding doing anything productive).

So are you making anything unique, amazing or massive in PHP?

I'm working on an open source archive extractor, creator and reader that should be able to handle RAR, ZIP, TAR, GZIP, BZIP and ACE.
Its written in PHP-GTK (learning as I go) and attempts to make installing and running a PHP-GTK program as simple as possible (configs ini and downloads and installs required extensions).

Currently creating a website that will require lots of small PHP scripts...galleries, news, articles, etc. (Replaces the old freak society one...)

Merve's abandoned projects that I may return to but it's highly unlikely: PEBoDMyAdmin and FooBoardQux...

Oh, and I'm not working on anything in PHP, but I'm working on a website in ASP (/me ducks) for the DeepStar project (thats the old one) for ChevronTexaco.

I'm currently writing a program that will determine if any arbitrary program will halt.

Other than that I'm just working on minor website stuff in PHP.

Putting together a report to persuade my boss it would be a good idea to let me build a product listing, purchase and general all round affiliate interface with SOAP.

I'm working on a modular authentication system over SOAP. Should allow for multiple authentication sources, specified by the client, all via the same API.

-warehouse/inventory control/order processing system & integrating back end with e-commerce site
-project and contact management system
-warehouse interbranch equipment exchange system
-article database site
-purchase order system
-also doing product r&d for the Christmas rush

Oooh, I'd be interested in hearing how you get on with that. I'm getting very interested with all things SOAPy at the moment (hence spending a pretty large chunk of my spare time writting the aforementioned report)

Featured Webmail client - to provide access to POP and IMAP accounts, split by HTML, and plain text, view inline images, with HTML, and attachments. (Darn internet police at work.. one way round it at least... 😃 😃 )

Conference enquiry system to log any and all enquiries, as well as provide instant reporting on any of the 24 units using the system

Groups and tours logging enquiries - similar to the above

Shopping cart and stock control / ordering system.

Too many jobs - too little time....

I'm actually pretty close to finished as far as the base functionality. About to move onto the real test, implementation into a project 🙂

But having never really touched SOAP when I started this little adventure I've learned a lot, and there's quite a bit more I wish I knew.

The biggest problem I've run into is a HUGE lack of decent documentation on ANY of the available SOAP toolkits. Based on this I went with Pear::SOAP (which is now rewritten as a PECL extension and released with PHP 5), but there are some definite "gotchas" on the webservice side. The "consumers" have been the really easy part, but the service itself has some big annoyances.

Overall though I've been rather impressed and I wouldn't go back and design out SOAP of this app 😃

I was doing Live-Chat in PHP for a while ... recently I found that there is already one like that(phpmychat)... so Project shelved for pending at Climax... currently chilling out... well not really.. college work sucks... so started new PHP project for Online Rummy(a type of Poker).. If somebody knows that it already exists let me know.. I'll shelve that project too 😃

hey tommynanda, just because a project already exists, doesn't mean you can't make your own... just make a better one.

I'm currently working on a small, fast, easily cusomizeable forum software called Flite (forum lite). You guys probably know all about it because you have been helping me create it. I started it primarily because I could not find a no gimmics, php, open source forum that was extremely customizeable. The other reason I started this was to learn php in a real life environment. I actually learnt php from a few good tutorials I have found on the net but, and their good to get you started, but they just don't cut it when it comes to writing a good scripts... That's where you guys come in... anyways, I'm getting off topic, you can check out my project on sourceforge.net

yeah... I am probably gonna finish off Live-Chat where I left... its almost in Climax stage... I am thinking of hosting that on sourceforge... look out for my project 😃

Working on an optimizing PHP opcode compiler/encoder
(whew! Writing PHP extensions is HARD work... especially when you haven't coded C in like 4 or 5 years!)

It's a lot of fun learning about the internal structure of the Zend engine/PHP...

I know there's already quite a few of them to choose from (Turck MMCache comes to mind), but this one is intended to be very simple, and very resource friendly!

And even if nobody likes it, it's a very nice project to excercise my programming muscles!
