Hi all, if this post does nothing else, maybe it will make you smile.
I`m the one trying to learn about databases for my website.
I`ll cut to the quick then give a short diary update later.
Here is the sql that I am trying to use in DWmx04.
SELECT Free_Listing.Att_Name, Region.Region
FROM Region INNER JOIN Free_Listing ON Region.RegionID = Free_Listing.Att_Region
WHERE (((Region.Region)="south"))
Its not working. The error message is "Unexpected T-String"
For anyone interested, here is what I have been upto since my last post.
Thanks to the good advice and links in afore mentioned post, I have read and read about database modelling and normalisation.
When I had understood the theory I spent many hours trying to get my head around psychically building the db using myphpadmin.--I failed.
So I went across to ms access and found that all of a sudden relationships etc all made sense.
I think it was the visual layout that did it.
So I built my first 5 tables added some lines of data and found a program to export it all back into mysql.
If you are smiling as you read this, yes i know it is an arse about way to do things that will give me more headaches but it is working for me so far.
I am even starting to make sense of basic sql by creating a design view query in access and then looking at the sql it generates.
On top of all of this i am planning to use DW for my front end stuff, so my little brain is currently working with the following...
Learn some php...understand that mysql and sql are not one and the same thing....learn some sql....learn myphpadmin.....work out what the hell is happening when i get carried away and open DW. (DW used to be my friend)
Thanks for listening.
PS. I bought a book last week called "Databases Demystified" It said that it is impossible to design a car unless you have driven one.
I`m still learning to drive.
Potbelly.
