help needed in getting maximum value

Hey i need to get the maximum value of the primary index of my table.... i tried this and it doesn't work......i dun get any result when i use "mysql_fetch_array".... can anyone help me???

$query = "SELECT MAX(comicNum) FROM archive GROUP BY comicname";

This is probably best suited for the Database forum. The people that look at that forum more will know more about SQL and will thus be able to help you quicker (and perhaps better).

Anyways, you need to supply more information.. I.e. why you think it doesn't it work, what does it give you instead, what are you using to read it, etc.
