Hi, I am new to PHP so please forgive any ignorance displayed!!

I am wanting to know how to do the following:

A visitor to my site comes along on to my index page and clicks on a link, the link takes them to another nice page which gives some information to them, this is great, however, I do not want this information to be displayed if the visitor has not come from my index page. So, if the visitor just goes directly to that URL or is referred by a search engine then I do not want them to be able to view the info.

I believe this as something to do with checking the HTTP_Referrer??

Any help would be most appreciated.

HTTP_referrer can be easily faked as it's just one of the HTTP headers. I would suggest setting a [man]session[/man] and checking that this session has been set.

I am aware of the unreliablilty of this method and its potential to be faked etc. I would still like to know how to do this all the same.

Any sample code would be greatly appreciated.

check out $_SERVER the predefined variables are listed in the php manual in the appendix regarding reserved words
