Using temp` tables

Hi,
I need some advice on method, rather than coding.

I am building a two stage registration form.

Form 1 gathers data and creates customerID

-Submit this- direct to form 2

Form 2 displays profile built so far including images and asks for more info to complete the customer profile.

I have read about using temporary tables. Would the above be a valid use for them?
also, how do you select the last customerID generated? I will need this to build Form 2.

I would just stick the stuff into session variables.

Thank you but i don`t think session variables will do what i want in this instance.

Form 1, user enters a region (regionID)

I then need the results page (form 2) to display a gif of the selected region so that the user can then place a location marker on the gif.
This "new" image then has to be sent back to the db.

store the x and y co-ordinates of the marker in the session variables and don't actually generate the new image until it is to be put into the database.
