IMAP Example

Could anyone tell me where I can find a good IMAP function example for sending e-mails with your POP3 account via PHP script??

You might read up a bit on the differences between IMAP, SMTP, and POP3.

IMAP/POP3 are both INBOUND protocols (as in ways to read your mail) while SMTP is outbound (ways to SEND mail).

As for an example of using php to send mail, check out [man]mail[/man] or look into using [man]sockets[/man] to send the message manually.

is there a difference between mail() and imap_mail() then?

Basically, I'm trying to find some other way to send mail without using mail() function. I have a mailing list (600 subscribers) and a half of them come back when I send a newsletter using a simple for loop to send one person at a time.

That probably isn't an issue with the mail function itself, but an issue with where your sending mail from (or to). More likely than not your mailserver is doing something to get itself caught in spam filters. Be it using a blatantly faked email address or something of the like.

Is this in a shared hosting environment or are you hosting it yourself?

Yes, it is hosted on the shared server.

That's what I have expected; it's probably getting caught by the SpamFilter on the mail server.
I think it's strange that the half of the newsletter goes through and rest doesn't because
they are all the same except that they are sent out to a different person....
I guess I need to speak with the tech support regarding this issue....

SMTP does both.

To clarify, When you send an email, it goes from your SMTP server to the destination SMTP server. So your SMTP server sends and receives mail. But you can't check mail with SMTP, SMTP puts your email in a location, and then you use either POP or IMAP to actually check your mail.
