i suck at preg_replace

Never really took the time to learn regex or the associated functions....I know I need to but it's hard to find the time.

I'm sure most of you can tell me why this thing I've put together isn't working. Trying to replace two or more tab characters with one.

$pattern = "/\t{2,}/";
$replacement = "/\t/";
preg_replace($pattern, $replacement, $line);

Hi,

I tested the following example:

$pattern = "/\t{2,}/"; 
$replacement = "\t"; 
preg_replace($pattern, $replacement, $line);

Just remove the / chars in $replacement.
