ok , im not good at explaning myself but i will give this a go

i have the following in a database

'fred','harry','freddynurks','others'

and just say i have it like so

$username='freddynurks';

$check="'fred','harry','freddynurks','others'"

if(strpos ($check, $username)!==false) {

}

used foreach too

it doesnt work , preg match doesnt work , im really stuck...

Hi,

please post the complete part of your code (copy'n'paste).

The example you posted works (after adding a ; at the end of the $check line).

The problem with this method of check is that you can get invalid results because if you search for fred and $check contains for example only freddy it would match, so

e.g. strpos($check,"'$username'") with ' around the username would be better but not optimal.
