PHPSESSID added to urls first entry

First entry to my website has all urls with PHPSESSID added to them. ie

www.myweb.com/page.html?PHPSESSID=byedfybdy etc

Upon refresh or clicking on the link, this behaviour has stopped.

I have seen several posts on this issue but none listing an answer to the problem.

I have in my ini file (untouched for 12 months) ...
session.use_trans_sid = 0
session.auto_start = 0
session.use_cookies = 1

so the trans_id should not be operating for my sessions which is a feature I turn off to prevent this from happening.

This just started happening without any updates to my ini file nor updates to php or apache.

The only thing I think I changed around the time this started occuring was I started placing a CustomerCode cookie on all visitors computers. Although I cannot pinpoint this happening at the same time the urls started getting messed up.

I had problems with all my links showing ?PHPSESSID and i solved it by putting this into the htaccess file:

<IfModule mod_php4.c>
php_value session.use_trans_sid 0
</IfModule>

It has taken me a while to test this thouroughly.
I tried the htaccess file as you suggested and it made no effect.
I still get all the session ids appended.

Any other clues?

I have continued to search for an answer and wanted to post my solution for anyone else who may find this thread for the same problem.

I had to place an ini command at the start of my PHP index page with the following...
ini_set('session.use_trans_sid', '0');

This must be placed BEFORE you do a session_start().

Whilst this has worked in stopping the problem, I feel that this is not an elegant solution.
Surely this parameter is set in the ini file loaded at startup and shouldn't have to be manualy reset????

Anyway, it fixed the problem.
