Finding text in a file to use as variable

Hi,
(please note, i'm pretty new to php hehe)
I've been looking to make a script that would display the info from a movie next to its preview image.
I already managed to make a script that includes a certain number of preview images that are linked to htm files with the full details about the movie etc

now the htm files have pretty messy code
the part where i need the info from looks like this

download :</b> movie title here, 245 Megs, 39 Minutes 47 secs, funny,
airplane, Joey MPEG</font></p>

the question is, how do i make a script find and show the movie title, the amount of Megs, minutes and secs and additional category info before the "MPEG" word

so after it searched, i could place the info with variables on the output, like $title, $size, $minutes $seconds $categories

I assume it needs to read the htm file and then find the info
maybe i'll need to work with the commas to let it know the different parts, however the categories can be 2,3,4 or 5 different things but it always ends with MPEG

Hi, If you are able to edit the format it is being displayed in it be good.

yes like you said useing some type of comma would be good then with PHP you can use EXPOLDE() function to find each Comma dn example each part of it in to Arrey

example:

Title | 22 MB | 22 Min Long | Cat name | etc....

$data = explode ("|", $movie_info);

$data[0] = is you Title
$data[1] = would be 22 MB

so when you use print $data[0] you get title.

that's the problem, i can't edit those pages and use a pipe or
something

these lines are just somewhere in the middle of html pages, it's not a file with only lines with that info on it.

what i would need is something that remembers the characters between a start and end point

for example:
the string that starts after the word secs, and ends before MPEG = $category
the string that starts after the word Minutes and ends before secs = $seconds

etc
i can remove possible spaces infront or after it later on

been looking around and i think it can be done with preg_match but can't figure out how

it find start and end point. like you want.

you would have to modify it as needed.

almost there now 😃

the code works perfect, but i ran into something while using that code for multiple files
then the output is the same for all files

instead of http://www.urltoread.com
i now have $file
just above the code that's about to open & read the file i've set an echo to see if the script i already have uses different files
and it does, the echo "opening and reading $file" shows me that it's going to open different files
includes/2004/07/preview/02.htm
includes/2004/06/preview/23.htm
etc

so that part should be ok
i also use other things like
$year = substr("$file", 9, 4);
and those work fine also

but the echo $myLine; keeps outputting the same line for each of them
it always uses the line from the first file

is there something i should add so it will forget the first results ?

give a example of code, not sure lost well reading you post. not clear on it.

you can always try to reset teh $myLine = ""; to output nothing

it's something that will put 3 preview images on each row, 4 rows total
the code before this just finds out what the names of the newest files are ... that script worked good
just now i'd like to change some things around and show some info under or next to each preview image

it includes htm files that contain a preview pic (weird way, but i'm happy if it's working hehe)
files look like this

the output of echo $myLine; is the same for each movie

so if the title from the first movie is like "john goes fishing"
it shows that exact same title for the other movies also instead of their own title

so i have 12 preview images on the output page, and each of them has the same title under it
only the title of the first preview image is correct

ok, i've put the $myLine = ""; after ++$i; and now it works 😃
