mysql_connect vs persistent connection?

I am currently using mysql_connect to connect to a user database for update, deletion of records. When is it necessary to use persistent connections?

if you are jumping from page to page (php pages) then that woud be good, it action is small then its not needd

if you do use it make sure to close it

It would be a good idea to read up about the two in the manual... There are 2 major differences with a persistent connection you should be aware of, which can affect server load, and max connections...
