[Resolved] Not a straight PHP + dbase question

If i had a table with a primary key thus:

##ELE#### {# -> a number}
##GAS####
##BOF#### etc etc

if i order the records by this record i get

00BOF1234
00MAS1234
01BOF2342
01MAS2133

How can i order it so i get the following

00BOF1234
01BOF2342
00MAS1234
01MAS2133 ???

basically i want to order by the 3 middle letters

Hi,

a workaround could be (assuming that the primary key column is named primid and that you use MySQL):

SELECT SUBSTRING(primid,3,3) AS pri,primid FROM ......... ORDER BY pri

I hope this works ....

A shorter way (tested) with no additional column required:

SELECT primid FROM ......... ORDER BY SUBSTRING(primid,3,3)
