[Resolved] Remove lines after 5th line?

Hey everyone.

I have a file that contains many lines of links, and lines are constantly added to the beginning of it. Sometimes I empty it, so this file's number of lines changes a lot. Here's what the file looks like:

<a href=01News.php#66>WTC has been destroyed</a> 
<a href=01News.php#9>evan's birthday!</a> 
<a href=01News.php#1>jacob won award</a> 
<a href=01News.php#233>new page is up!</a> 
<a href=01News.php#34>second news post is cool!</a> 
<a href=01News.php#5>site has been created.</a>

This file is require() 'd in the home page, but it displays all these links. I just want it to display the first five lines.

Long story short, how to i require() only the first 5 lines of a file?

Pull the file contents into an array with the [man]file()[/man] function, and then loop through the first 5 to display using a FOR loop.

I tried that, using this code:

for( $i = 0; $i < 5; $i++ ) echo linkarray[$i];

but it just displayed the first five characters of the first line. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah.. we'll need the rest ofthe code to see how you are making an array. If it's showing the first five characters of the dirst line, then you are probably making a string instead using the fopen function. You need to use the file() function to make an array.

Thank you all for your help! It turns out that my code was completely right. After pondering for a few minutes, i started testing around, and just fiddling with it. I tried just echoing the first string in that array, and all the links came up. and if I echoed any other lines, all the stuff was still there.

What i didn't know was that the links file was actually not sorted into lines, as I thought it was! It was an error with one of my other pages.

Anyway, it's solved now. Thank you all!
