how can i obfuscate / encrypt my code safely?

hi:

i'm working for a client which is beginning to become unreasonable. They have agreed to license the code that I've written but have lately started to act really dodgy and make increasingly unreasonable demands. they have hired an outside programmer and I am concerned that this outside programmer's purpose is to take my software project and make a copy so that they don't have to pay the license fee.

i want to disguise my code or obfuscate it so that he cannot possibly understand it. it is important that this obfuscation doesn't introduce any security holes or affect functionality.

can anyone recommend an approach?

I have an encoder program that will protect both php and html files to protect both files and any browser output. Works very nice, and I have yet to see it not work on a server.

I use it for hiding the source of streaming media and initial web design for clients (before they have paid).

ideally, the solution would not require any PHP modules or server changes...just a code obfuscator that create self-extracting, gibberish PHP that does what i want.
