CSS - scalable or centred

Which do you lean towards with site design: centred, scalable, neither, or both?

I tend toward centred (800x600) to keep everything tidy as scalable tends to lend itself better to forum and info sites (neither of which have I had the pleasure of doing for a client). A business site of about 20 pages with limited content per page sits nicer centred in my opinion (but I can be persuaded!)

It really depends on the site. I try to make all of my pages work just as well under 800600 as they do under 16001200. Currently, I'm working on one that's a fixed pixel-width, so it has a lot of whitespace (well, it's not white, but that's besides the point) to the right. It is somewhat-left aligned (offset 75px from the left side). I'll unleash that upon you all here in a bit... muahahahahahahaha.

But it definately depends on the page.

By the way, I read your signature as "dirtyartcollection.com."

I tend to prefer the control that a fixed width affords. One of these days I'll have to make a liquid width site, but not right now... 😉

Argh! percentages! They drive me nuts as people often change the font size and whatnot...I always some sort of message at the bottom of whatever site I make that says that the page is best viewed in a 1024 by 768 resolution.

Because I always used fixed values, I have to create a separate stylesheet for IE and for other browsers...

Just write a stylesheet that works in both? Usually not that hard. Just test under IE and Mozilla and Opera constantly, so you know what you have to change.

Glad that's over with. Yep, although loctrad does sound kind of elvish 🆒 - though I'm not an elf :bemused: ... er ... so (scrambling back on topic) scalable or centred? What do you reckon?

The biggest problem that I have with that is that IE uses the height attribute the way it's supposed to use the min-height attribute and doesn't recognize the min-height attribute. However I still only make one style sheet, I just make it with a .php extension:rolleyes:
