PHP errors showing Users Online!

Could anyone help me resolve these error messages? I'm fairly new to PHP and am at a loss, any direction would be a huge step:

Notice: Undefined variable: REMOTE_ADDR in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ChateauElanAtlanta\web-content\index.php on line 178

Some background....

I've got current versions of MySQL and PHP running great with a far more sophisticated PHP/MySQL calendar system than this Show Users Online php. I've tried about a half dozen Users Online scripts that end up with similiar errors.

I've double-double checked my tables/database/users/permission settings and just not sure what to check next--or if I've overlooked something!

While I looked up the definition of isset() -- determining whether a variable is set or not. I'm not code savvy enough to know how to apply it to this code (or why it would effect the outcome).

I trust the code I downloaded is correct, I can read the php well enough to understand basic functionality, but i gots no code grammar sos to speak =)

The code I was supplied with is from a site i've gotten other working php from:

http://www.onlyphp.com/onlyusers.php

Its like I'm wondering if the version of PHP I installed is lacking certain built-in variables or something that this code is trying to reference. (no idea yet how stoopid that probably makes me sound!)

Probably the person who originally wrote the script wrote it for register_globals turned on and you have it off.

Either turn register_globals on (which I don't recommend), or rework the script to not require it. If it's a fairly small program it should be easy enough.

So you only use parts of the original script. Certainly you would have some errors because they might reference to somewhere else as you have noticed.

Just use isset(REMOTE_ADDR) to replace REMOTE_ADDR
isset(PHP_SELF) to replace PHP_SELF

then it might eliminate those warnings.
