About servers....

Hi everybody

We have an intranet that will be in use in my work and no more than 10 users will use it ,and it never will come out to the internet. I will install Apache and php

We're going to buy a server for this intranet and we are still deciding about which server is good just for these requirements.

I would like to hear some recommendations about what server you may buy.

We have in mind one PC with windows 2003 server with 5 connections licences....

What do you think?
Do you think a simple computer would be enough instead of that?
What is your opinion?

What else is your server going to run? Will it be a file server as well?

If running the server as an Intranet not a file server you can probably use an Old PC with roughly 128mb RAM probably even 64Mb 486Mhz and higher for CPU should be good and install Linux. Not only is it cheaper you should know unless theres hardware faults your system should be up constantly

And it goes without saying that if you've got a spare Dual PIII-667 machine or something similar, with 512 Megs or more of RAM, it will be sitting there doing its nails most of the time.

If you can, spend a little money on enough drives to have a RAID 1 or 5 holding your data so you can survive a single disk failure.
