Number of days in month

Why doesn't the following work?

$num_days = date ( "t" , $month );

In this case $month = "06" but instead of getting back 30 days I get 31 (June has 30 days).

Even I provide the full date

$num_days = date ( "t" , "2004-06-01");

I get the same result.

Because the second argument to the date function should be a unix timestamp. Use [man]strtotime[/man] first.

mcal_days_in_month() returns the number of days in the month month, taking into account if the considered year is a leap year or not

Note: the mcal_ functions are part of a non-standard extension and also *nix only.

And date() recognises leap years as well.
