please help me with my zipcode problem

I am designing a solution in which a customer can search for products. The customer provides a zipcode.

I am trying to come up with a good methodology.

A). should i allow the customer to search within a certain mileage radius (for example 5 miles 10 miles etc). I know this approach may require me to get a zipcode longitute latitude database which may be costly ..............plus search calculations etc...

😎. Give the customer option for city state and then the custiomer can search for products in that city state etc? But i would probably need a city state database also............

Any feedback on either of these appraoches ?

That really depends on the exact circumstances your client has. If they offer sales to every city within 10 miles, or within a certain state that is pretty simple. Also, you can find databases for yourself without spending money. Some of the open source projects out there use such databases, and it wouldn't be too much effort to extract that info from them.
