text color change?

I dont know if this can be done. Here is what I want to do.. when a person enters in a value I want it to be checked and change the color of the text according to the value. It is for a signal to noise page I am working on.

The techs call in with levels and the people in the office enter the levels that store it in the mysql database. That is all fine, but the boss would like to see the text chnage to say red when levels are bad, so the people can right away know that is a non-acceptable level.

They only way I can think of is if it gets entered then compared on an if/then then redisplay the text the color.

Any thoughts or ideas?

here is a very simplified example that should get you going:

Hmm I think you're misundertstanding. Ok I have a form that has an input box. the user types say 32 that is ok because its above 30 but.. say the user types 29 and its not ok from a value point of view and it should change to red.

i didn't misundertsand you. i simply gave you a very generalized simplified example of collecting form data and using it to change font colors for you to use as a starting point for your script.

the only thing i may have misunderstood is whether you want the text to change color immediately after the form element is changed, that is to say before the form is submitted. if so, that cannot be done with PHP (which is server-side). that would have to be done with javascript (which is client-side).

how bout if u use 'if ... else ...' command to do that?

jwoo, what you want to do is via JavaScript (through an onupdate event.) since it is a client-side action. Php is a server-side script, meaning everything is processed before it is ever sent to the browser, so there is no client-side realtime interactivity like you are wanting. Some of the people here are pretty good with JS, but we're mostly php folks... Your question would be better served on a JavaScript specific forum.
